What a great feeling to be sharing information about our SPRING athletics at Pape School –
WE MADE IT!!!
We are pleased to announce that Pape School will be taking part in the HEALTHY SCHOOLS 5K RUN/WALK on Saturday, May 23rd at Downsview Park. This event is being hosted by the TDSB in celebration of active living. Families are welcomed to participate in this great community event together. For more information, please click on www.tdsb.on.ca/5k .
As a way to prepare for this event, Pape School will be running the ‘HIGH 5’ club. This club will take place on Thursday mornings beginning Thursday, April 23rd, until Thursday, May 21st (5 weeks). We will meet on our track to get active with different walking/running challenges. All grade 1-6 students are welcomed to participate. Permission forms will be sent home with all interested students on Friday, April 17th.
We will register for this event as a school, so if you would like to participate with your child(ren), we are asking all families to arrange their own transportation to Downsview Park. As we get closer to the event date, we will explore carpooling options.
Track and Field season is quickly approaching as well. Pape’s Track and Field Day will be held in mid-April, weather permitting. This will take place during the instructional day, and it will allow all grade 2-6 students to experience the thrill of various Track and Field events. It is a fun-filled and active way to herald in the warm spring weather. We also use the results from this day to build Pape’s Track and Field team, as we have limitations in terms of the number of students we can bring. The Track and Field meet will be held on Monday May 11th at Birchmount Stadium.
In May, we will have our kick-off assembly for JUMP 4 HEART. This is a popular fundraising event which benefits the students as they jump their way to healthy hearts – it also benefits the Heart and Stroke Foundation. There are some amazing heart-healthy prizes to be won as well!
In June, we will have a Flag Rugby Workshop week for all interested students in grades 3-6. This is open to both experienced and novice players, and it will take place at lunchtime. It’s a great way to try out the sport and prepare/test interest for the Junior Flag Rugby Team in September.
Last but not least… While the Fall Running Club is still a few months away, plans are underway to support an enhanced program. For those interested in learning more (and/or volunteering for that program), please join us at the upcoming parent council meeting (Thursday, April 16th).
